Melissa Hat

Melissa is a reversible hat, so named after its striking bee-like feature. Melissa (μέλισσα) is the Greek word for honey bee! Worked primarily in reverse stockinette, it has a textured panel that merges to a point at the crown. On the one side, this feature looks like a beehive, while on the reverse it looks like bees in flight. So it’s like getting two hats in one! Melissa is a simple but fun knit, perfect for all skill levels! For more on the inspiration behind this design, visit www.oystersandpurls.com.

Chrysler Hat

This hat was inspired by my favorite building in New York City, the Chrysler building! I have always admired its art deco architecture and how it stands out among all the other skyscrapers in the Manhattan skyline.
A combination of plain stockinette stitch, purl stitch, increases and decreases are used in this pattern, chosen for their resemblance to the “dome” of the Chrysler building. The sequence of this stitch pattern is easy to memorize, resulting in a meditative and engaging knit!

Little Garden

This baby sweater was inspired by the blooming gardens in the spring. I love all four seasons, but I do believe spring is the prettiest time of year, when the weather is just warming up and the world is awakening from a deep sleep. Sunshine, flowers and smiles!

A combination of Seed stitch and Moss stitch are used in this pattern. These stitches were chosen for their relevance in a garden. They are also both simple stitches which produce great texture. The color yellow was used in the sample to mimic the sunshine and warmth that fills us during the months of spring. The embroidered flowers complete this pattern with added cuteness, making this the perfect hand knit item in your baby’s spring/summer wardrobe!
